Back in braction (brew- action) today with a very sneaky two-man-er following a trip across the bridge from our mates at Mount Street. The rush of corporate suits transcending upon the notorious terrace quenched our thirsts for a LM, so on we went, RM Williams stepping one foot in front of the other, onwards to Lowdown Espresso.
Vibes 🍃- Lowdown is about as appealing to the average city corporate as the Netflix series ‘Suits’ is to a first-year law student (they won’t shut up about it). For good reason too, it’s smack bang in the middle of Cloisters and has a warm, trendy vibe with a geometric wrap pattern and dim lighting. We wish it didn’t feel so weird dining-in, takeaway seems to be the way to fit in.
Taste 👅- Where the real points are scored, we aren’t sure if LowDown quite lived up to the hype… running a custom Fiori blend with a dark, tangy finish that really hijacked your palette. We weren’t sure if it was the extraction, age, or just that they weren’t used to a 6oz dine-in ratio, but it just didn’t seem to suit a long-mac at all :(
Temperature 🌡- Hit the spot where it needed to, no complaints here.
Glass Size 📏 – As men in Spain would say, “Perfecto” and women “Perfecta”
Froth 🥛 – More like @kingjames (good) than @bronny (no good)
General Appearance/Consistency 🤩 – Not quite the most visually appealing drop, heck, drink it with your eyes closed.
Keep this on the down low, because Lowdown espresso nestled in Cloisters Arcade on Hay Street will deeeeffffffinately be hit up in future, ideally when it’s not hectically under the pump fuelling the work ethics on those who run our economy (cheers heaps guys 🙌 ). Firstly, serving us a traditional long mac – we did have to ask for our brews to be topped up, but we digress… Keen to check them out when the latte art isn’t lacking as much, nonetheless it’s a trendy and vibey spot. Job well done.
