Review #16 - @modus.coffee

Easter is upon us. The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and the brews are begging to be sipped. This week, the blokes took precious time off from their all-important egg hunt preparations and hopped on down to Modus Coffee in Mt Lawley. A stunning day, an early start and yet another long mac for the brew-o-meter. Excellent.

Vibes 🍃- Sitting just off the main strip of Mount Lawley proved to be a perfect spot for a café: close to all the action and people, yet far enough away to enjoy a brew in peace and quiet. The blokes enjoyed the simplistic yet stylish outfitting, some very inclusive seating as well as extremely cool batch brew jugs (that just about everyone but us were pouring from). Certainly, a venue for the ‘coffee-inclined’ with the right specialty coffee vibe to match.

Taste 👅- Awesome sight to see another WA café roasting and sourcing their own beans and wow was there a variety of choice. Almost felt like a crime asking for milk with our single origin Long Macs grown in the prosperous regions of Colombia with notes of toffee, butter, and mango which ‘modus’ smile. Very light with an evaporating mouth-feel - probably due to the 8oz cups which is sad to see as it could’ve really been top tier with the right shot to milk ratios.

Temperature 🌡 – Honestly wasn’t great. We would’ve liked it a little hotter.

Glass Size 📏 – 8oz and a mug. An area for improvement for Modus.

Froth 🥛 –The froth levels were equivalent to Liam Ryan’s set shot. Exquisite.

General Appearance/Consistency 🤩 -

We absolutely adore tulips and modus really nailed these for all 4 brews, leading to elite consistency all round.

Carpe Diem, ‘Seize the day’. Today’s day was certainly seized. A true hot spot for a good brew in Mt Lawley, the popular Modus Cafe on Beaufort Street caused our taste buds to ooze with delight and passion from our very light and buttery long mac. Not the strongest one we’ve enjoyed, yet certainly a decent one at that. It’s a brave brew world out there, If you are looking for a good black coffee though, this is the place to be. Hat’s off to Modus!
