In the fallout of another truly disappointing hottest 100 (in the blokes’ humble but profound musical opinions), the blokes were in dire need of the warm embrace of a brew. Thankfully, turning their gazes to their ever-expanding list of recommended Perth cafes, the call was made to hop on over to Engine Room in North Perth. This spot is pretty darn cool…
Vibes 🍃- Was only fair to hit up the North Perth ‘coffee belt’ which seemed to have packed cafes and wicked coffee culture as far as the eye could see. This quaint, shoe-box sized café humbly sits in the middle of Fitzgerald Street, with a cool, quirky décor. Not the largest seating options available inside however there seems to be a narrow laneway out the back for those looking to catch some air. Great ‘people watching’ location that I’m sure you could sink some hours into.
Taste 👅 – First time tasters of Sydney roasters and first-time tasters of ‘Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters’ from NSW’s east coast. Really intense and rich body with a lingering finish. Notes of dark chocolate and some sort of praline or toffee help smooth out the taste. Definitely a cuppa for those that enjoy the ‘darker’ side of the coffee spectrum, maybe us blokes have become too acclimatised to Perth coffee?
Temperature 🌡 – If we brought the temperature home to our parents they would’ve been delighted.
Glass Size 📏 – Was awesome seeing the 6oz, although the opaque aspect was as questionable as Flume winning hottest 100. (BOTA robbed).
Froth 🥛 – Didn’t exactly get our engines running and was slightly on the plus side.
General Appearance/Consistency 🤩 – We saw it, we smiled. 4 good looking brews for 4 good looking blokes (allegedly of course).
We could just ‘Say Nothing’ about this breview, but realistically, we ought to. One of life’s great lessons is to always try your best… and I’m sure that’s what the peeps at the Engine Room did. There were areas that could’ve been improved, but as my year 2 teacher Ms Naumovski always told me, as long as you try your best, nothing else matters. Muchos gracias amigos. Keep hustling.
