Review #65 - @laika.coffee

Guten tag 👋 to all of our German brans (brew-fans) following the blokes on their epic quest. Deep in the end-of-semester exam purge, the blokes are throwing down a hump day review just for the sheer thrill of it. Laika Coffee was pretty darned cool. Brew-yah.

Vibes 🍃- This hip little spot in the city suburb of Lathlain absolutely took our breath away. Named after the Soviet space dog, the blokes were certainly blown out of this world! From the in-house coffee roastery to the out-door basketball court this placed flowed so beautifully. Such a massive space that still felt so intimate and cozy. p.s demographic at the hoop of half our age didn’t stop us being the ‘kings of the court’.

Taste 👅- Another hidden bean today, our experienced palate picked out a Colombian single origin from ‘Timely Coffees’ but don’t quote us. Notes of a light cocoa, grapefruit, and a heavy citrusy acidity that was somewhat well rounded. We feel like perhaps it was under-extracted on the day but given how packed it was maybe this was just an outlier? Shoutout to the sleek undercounter Modbar though 🤩

Temperature 🌡 - Laika, Laika, Laika, can’t you see, sometimes your temp just hypnotises me… just a little too cool this morn 😎

Glass Size 📏 – Awesome glass sizes (6oz), would’ve impressed ‘Big Pippa’ himself.

Froth 🥛 – Really put the ‘BIG’ in ‘Notorious B.I.G’. Slightly excessive but wasn’t the end of an era, like when Biggie passed away😢. R.I.P.

General Appearance/Consistency 🤩 – We really loved Laika’s, flashy ways (awesome latte art and consistency). Guess that’s why they’re such a powerhouse.

Nestled in the heart of Lathlain, the smell of Deep Heat and sweat dripping from players across the road at the West Coast Eagles’ Mineral Resources Park, we knew a good brew was imminent today. A packed joint with great décor, lots of space and an epic basketball court out the back AND a good brew, I mean cmon… what a café. Ta ta and visit Laika for an almost out of body experience (if you’re into that kind of stuff). Antio sas
