Review #67 - @vanscafecottesloe

Howdily doodily, fellow brusketeers (brew-musketeers) 👋 The blokes are back on the brew trail in search of Perth’s finest long mac. A few of the blokes are jetting off to enjoy euro summer, meaning that their final (emotional) taste of a WA long mac was inbound. This week, the blokes stopped by Vans in Cottesloe.

Vibes 🍃- Vans has been a ‘Cottesloe institution’ for longer than us blokes have been alive and its clear they have a cult-like following. This popular foodery, was absolutely packed but the blokes were lucky to get a seat in their secluded (and importantly heated) courtyard. Felt like we had our own private function area, only brought back to reality by the occasional toots of passing trains. ‘Off the Wall’ type of vibes that we can get around 🤙

Taste 👅- The blokes first taste of Canning Vales wholesale roasters ‘Crema Coffee Co’. Notes were quite explicit and forward: dark chocolate, caramel and molasses leaving a long-lasting aftertaste. Not quite the character of a specialty roaster blend we are used to, but for their low whole-bean price point, they put out some satisfying blends… which for more ‘food focused’ establishments, is the way to go.

Temperature 🌡 - As Post Malone once said, ‘I like you, I do’

Glass Size 📏 – Just what the doctor ordered (we actually aren’t doctors ourselves, but highly suspect that this is what they would order).

Froth 🥛 – We came, we saw. What we saw was good levels of froth, all around.

General Appearance/Consistency 🤩 – Couldn’t tell the difference between the froth levels (and we tried, trust us). Art wasn’t too specky though tbh.

In lieu of ¾ of the Bloke’s pie heading on an international Long Mac R+D trip, we hit up this Cottesloe beauty with high expectations. The vines, the concrete, the plethora of Cott locals all within this very popular destination. Known more as a restaurant for lunch/dinner purposes, their brew certainly didn’t disappoint, and we were pleased with their output, but we understand they do have bigger fish to fry. Great job Van’s, “I’ll be back” – Arnold Schwarzenegger.
